Frizzy hair control with Living Proof No Frizz

Say goodbye to frizzy hair days: Scientists in the USA have invented  a new product that promises silky straight hair whatever the weather.  No Frizz is the brainchild of Robert Langer, a chemical engineer who has won some of the most prestigious prizes in medicine and has found solutions for some of the toughest medical challenges.  Professor Langer, whose other achievements include growing an ear on the back of a mouse and creating blood vessels from stem cells, says ‘Our thinking is that if we can find solutions for some of the toughest medical challenges, we should certainly be able to cure frizz.’

The US professor promises the range of sprays and creams he has invented will keep hair silky straight whatever the weather. Sprayed or rubbed on after washing and before drying, they shield the hair from the pesky droplets of moisture that cause it to frizz, kink and curl in wet or humid weather.

Professor Langer, whose other achievements include growing an ear on the back of a mouse and creating blood vessels from stem cells, said: ‘Our thinking is that if we can find solutions for some of the toughest medical challenges, we should certainly be able to cure frizz.’

To get to the root of the problem, his team studied the straightening creams, sprays and gels already available.  These all rely on the same ingredient to stop hair from getting frizzy- silicone. None is completely effective and hair can be left feeling heavy and greasy.

Professor Langer, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Boston, said: ‘The issue with frizzy hair is that moisture gets in and expands it in different ways.The key is to keep moisture out. Silicone doesn’t keep moisture out that well.’

The No Frizz range uses a man-made, water-repellent compound called polyfluoroester, to coat the hair. Lighter than silicone, it encases each strand of hair, preventing water from entering.  You choose either a spray or cream, depending on the thickness of their hair, and apply it after washing and towel drying. Hair is then dried and styled as usual. The process should be repeated each day.

Shampoos and conditioners complete the range, which has won several beauty awards in America, and the manufacturers have been flooded with thank you messages from customers boasting newly frizz-free hair.

The products are already on sale in the US, but cannot be bought from the UK on the internet yet.
